Description
Organic Starter Feed Chick crumbles should have a minimum of 21% protein and are used to start out baby chicks. You should use this low starch formula for the first 20 weeks of growth.
A good rule of thumb is that each chick eats about 1 lb of food per week, and they typically eat starter food for their first 6 weeks and grower food for the next 14 weeks. This organic starter feed can be both a starter and grower so it is designed for the first 20 weeks before transitioning to food designed for mature chickens.
So, in total, you will need the following amounts of organic starter feed over the first 20 weeks:
- 25 lbs of Starter: Feeds 1-2 Chicks
- 50 lbs of Starter: Feeds 2-3 Chicks
- 75 lbs of Starter: Feeds 3-4 Chicks
- 100 lbs of Starter: Feeds 5-6 Chicks
Keep in mind, you do not want to order all of your feed at once. By ordering multiple times, you ensure your feed stays fresh.
For example, if you plan to raise 6 chicks, you may want to order 25 lbs every 5 weeks, or 4 times total. This approach ensures they have the correct starter and grower feed for the first 20 weeks of their life and that their feed does not spoil.
