Organic layer feed has a minimum of 17% protein and are used to help your chickens lay strong healthy eggs. You can start using this feed for hens around 16-20 weeks of age. In some parts of the country, we only offer “Soy-Free” (which is the most preferred organic feed).
This organic layer feed is formulated to be used as the only source of food for your egg layers or you may also use it to supplement a pasture-based diet.
A good rule of thumb is that each mature egg layer eats about 2 ½ lb of food per week.
So, if you buy feed every 4 weeks, you will need the following amounts of organic layer feed:
- 25 lbs of Feed: Feeds 2-3 Chicks
- 50 lbs of Feed: Feeds 4-6 Chicks
- 75 lbs of Feed: Feeds 7-8 Chicks
- 100 lbs of Feed: Feeds 9-10 Chicks
